Extended Care

With our Extended Care Program, Woodland School is a vibrant and active place before and after school. This drop-in program is available to all Woodland families. We offer excellent care by trained counselors, most of whom are either current Woodland teachers or alumni.

Morning

Morning care begins at 7:30am to the beginning of school, Monday - Friday. Please note that Extended Care hourly fees apply 7:30am- 8:00am for Kindergarten through Eighth grades and 7:30am-8:30am for Early Childhood students.

After School

After School Extended Care is available 3:00pm- 6:00pm Monday - Thursday, and 2:00pm- 6:00pm on Friday for Kindergarten through Eighth grades. For Early Childhood students Extended Care is 3:30pm- 6:00pm Monday- Thursday and 2:30pm- 6:00pm on Friday.

During our After School Program, students have the opportunity to engage in a variety of activities, including the optional Enrichment Classes below.

"Trimester 3 (T3) Enrichment Classes" are now posted and most will begin the week of March 13th. Please note the specific starting date of each Enrichment Class as they do vary. Please click on grade levels below to see details about classes offered this trimester.

Jump Bunch | Tuesdays 3:30pm - 4:15pm

Jump Bunch presents a new and fun dimension to the classes already being offered in extended care. They bring expertise to over 70 different structured sports and activities, and the children will learn a new one every two weeks, over the 13-week sessions. As an example, Obstacle Course, Flag Football, Chicken Toss, Paddle Ball, Step Aerobics, Hopscotch, Basketball, Volleyball, and many more. These programs are geared towards building confidence, coordination, and encouraging a positive attitude towards sports and fitness.

Nexplore | Thursdays 3:30pm- 4:15pm

PLAY

In the first stage, students learn one of Nexplore’s carefully selected strategy games. After a related introductory activity, students will learn the aims and rules of a new game. They will be given the opportunity to play in small groups.

LEARN

In the second stage, students will be introduced to metacognitive models, game strategies and underlying thinking concepts to develop their awareness about thinking processes. This reflective and investigatory phase encourages students to analyze their gaming experience and refine it.

APPLY

In the third stage, students will be guided to make connections to the real world. The thinking concepts learned in the game are applied to real life scenarios in which students can make a transference from the game setting to their real cognitive, social, emotional and academic experiences.

John Tust is a professional carpenter with 25 years of experience and a "Kids Carpentry" Instructor since 2011. Mr. Tust teaches children the safe-use of woodworking with hand-tools. While building their projects from scratch, students are introduced to concepts of applied math, problem solving, fine motor skills, and empowerment to become independent thinkers. Projects may include boats, clocks, games, trucks, doll furniture, and many more.

Spilling Ink: Spectacular Settings

Want to ride a flying carpet to the moon? Maybe take an elevator to the ocean floor? When you’re the author, your story can take you any place you can dream up. In this class, students will create a short story that takes place in at least two spectacular settings. Society of Young Inklings’ unique methodology uses active improvisational games to inspire young writers in the creation of original stories. Each creative writing class is designed to inspire and challenge young writers based on their unique needs and skill level. Group instruction during each session deepens students understanding of story development. During writing time, instructors circulate to individualize the learning process for each student. Each young writer receives a workbook and journal. Writers will have an opportunity to share their masterpieces with family and friends on the last day of class.

Spilling Ink: Spectacular Settings

Want to ride a flying carpet to the moon? Maybe take an elevator to the ocean floor? When you’re the author, your story can take you any place you can dream up. In this class, students will create a short story that takes place in at least two spectacular settings. Society of Young Inklings’ unique methodology uses active improvisational games to inspire young writers in the creation of original stories. Each creative writing class is designed to inspire and challenge young writers based on their unique needs and skill level. Group instruction during each session deepens students understanding of story development. During writing time, instructors circulate to individualize the learning process for each student. Each young writer receives a workbook and journal. Writers will have an opportunity to share their masterpieces with family and friends on the last day of class.

In fact, they know that a rigid, unimaginative approach is more than likely going to fail. “Kids don’t enjoy playing sports because they care about winning,” said Alex Rupchin, Director of Tennis. “Kids love to pick up new sports because of the fun factor. They actually like doing something they’re good at and improving their skills at something new, so we spend quite a bit of time focusing on the fundamentals of each game in creative ways.”
